Drinks Are On Me: What’s The Word? Thunderbird!

  • Pamela · 1 year ago
Ha! I can't believe I've never heard of Thunderbird. I asked a friend, "You ever hear of a product called Thunderbird?" He responded, "Back in the 50's my dad was out driving one night and a cop pulled him over accusing him of being drunk. He reached into his pocket to pull out his ID and a bottle of Thunderbird fell out and shattered as it hit the ground. HA! No evidence so no ticket!" I understand it was very popular drink for Southern California Marines!

Good heavens! I gotta try it. I wonder if there's a drinkable bottle anywhere within 100 miles of my home.

I agree with Karen -- I have to try this stuff. -michael

Pamela, that story perfectly fits with the history of Thunderbird! What a great story!

Craig, can you help me get some of that MD20/20?

Karen, I don't think there's a drinkable bottle of this swill located on planet Earth!

You can still purchase both Thunderbird (produced by Ernest & Julio Gallo) and "Mad Dog" (actually the MD in MD 20/20 is for Mogen David) at most liquor stores. Speaking as one who has tried Thunderbird Red, MD Grape, MD Lemon/Lime, MD Wild Berry, and MD Hawiian Blue, you're not missing much. But if you must, you might want to add Boone's Farm Strawberry Wine to the list. They are all horrible tasting, highly potent, "high school drunk" wines...
