Drinks Are On Me: Follow These Winos On Twitter, Part 4

  • Robert · 1 year ago
What the heck is so great about Twitter? Yes I know I could go find a several paragraph summary elsewhere on the web -- but why are so many people talking about it, and what would make it worth the time to go find and read such a summary?

Hey Dale, thanks for posting these. I am always looking for more blogs to follow and more twitter people to talk with. This has been really helpful. Please keep it up!

My pleasure, Lar. Lots more love coming! Okay, that sounded bad, but you know what I mean.

Robert asked what the big deal with Twitter is. I asked the Twitter community their opinions and here are some responses I received:

@vihuela said, "Tailored conversations on what you want to know. Who's drinkin what, for how much, are they talking about u?"

@Bradinator said, "Twitter succeeds where every fridge magnet fails. It keeps your message in an ever evolving conversation that is both novel and direct."

@winetravel said, "Twitter is great for links you might not find; for meeting people in a more open, quick way than via Facebook, LinkedIn; & self-marketing!"

@winebratsf said, "Twitter allows you to reach a specific audience, quickly and effectively . The most useful wine things i've found are Twitter specific offers i.e. % off, bonus bottles, etc to encourage sales. Also great for broadcasting events & news"

@geoff_bilbrough said, "build a community of people that drink their product - deliver running commentary on vintage, tasting locations, reviews, perfect"

Another reader pointed me to an article he wrote titled, "Twitter Hits Its Tipping Point" at: http://casadwyer.blogspot.com/2008/11/twitter-h...

    Hope that helps.

I am not convinced that those opinions really reflect what is happening on twitter right now, at least in the wine sector. I continue to search through twitter frequently and the overwhelming majority of people I have found are marketers, PR people, importers, retailers... basically people trying to get a message across to someone else. I am having a hard time finding people who are there just to be there. Now, that doesn't mean I don't find twitter useful in making relationships with said industry people, but if you are looking for the consumer "audience" I don't think it is quite there yet.

Rob, the wine people I most commonly see on Twitter are wine bloggers.
